What is Email Marketing?

Email marketing is, as the name suggests, the use of email in marketing communications.

What sort of email?

In its broadest sense, the term covers every email you ever send to a customer, potential customer or public venue. In general, though, it's used to refer to:

  • Sending direct promotional emails to try and acquire new customers or persuade existing customers to buy again
  • Sending emails designed to encourage customer loyalty and enhance the customer relationship
  • Placing your marketing messages or advertisements in emails sent by other people

Give me an analogy...

You can think of these three main forms of email marketing as the electronic equivalent of:

  • Direct mail
  • Sending people a print newsletter
  • Placing advertisements in subscription magazines and newspapers

There is, however, one extremely important difference - the issue of permission (see later).

Why is email marketing so popular?

Email marketing is so popular because:

  • sending email is much cheaper than most other forms of communication
  • email lets you deliver your message to the people (unlike a website, where the people have to come to your message)
  • email marketing has proven very successful for those who do it right

Let's briefly review the three types of email marketing:

1. Direct email

Direct email involves sending a promotional message in the form of an email. It might be an announcement of a special offer, for example. Just as you might have a list of customer or prospect postal addresses to send your promotions too, so you can collect a list of customer or prospect email addresses.

You can also rent lists of email addresses from service companies. They'll let you send your message to their own address lists. These services can usually let you target your message according to, for example, the interests or geographical location of the owners of the email address.

2. Retention email

Instead of promotional email designed only to encourage the recipient to take action (buy something, sign-up for something, etc.), you might send out retention emails.

These usually take the form of regular emails known as newsletters. A newsletter may carry promotional messages or advertisements, but will aim at developing a long-term impact on the readers. It should provide the readers with value, which means more than just sales messages. It should contain information which informs, entertains or otherwise benefits the readers.

3. Advertising in other people's emails

Instead of producing your own newsletter, you can find newsletters published by others and pay them to put your advertisement in the emails they send their subscribers. Indeed, there are many email newsletters that are created for just this purpose - to sell advertising space to others.

What is Social Bookmarking?

Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata, typically in the form of tags that collectively and/or collaboratively become a folksonomy. Folksonomy is also called social tagging, "the process by which many users add metadata in the form of keywords to shared content".[1]

In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, or via a search engine.

Most social bookmark services encourage users to organize their bookmarks with informal tags instead of the traditional browser-based system of folders, although some services feature categories/folders or a combination of folders and tags. They also enable viewing bookmarks associated with a chosen tag, and include information about the number of users who have bookmarked them. Some social bookmarking services also draw inferences from the relationship of tags to create clusters of tags or bookmarks.

Many social bookmarking services provide web feeds for their lists of bookmarks, including lists organized by tags. This allows subscribers to become aware of new bookmarks as they are saved, shared, and tagged by other users.

As these services have matured and grown more popular, they have added extra features such as ratings and comments on bookmarks, the ability to import and export bookmarks from browsers, emailing of bookmarks, web annotation, and groups or other social network features.

Focus your Efforts to make more Money Online

If you can't find a way to focus your efforts, you will not
make money online.

Plain and simple.

Believe me I've been making money online for years now.

When I first got into the make money online field, I couldn't
get focused. I was listening this guy, that guy, another guy,
every guy and got information overload and didn't take
action.

I wasn't able to pick a project and stay focused and finish
it. I would read an e-book or take some information from
someone and try and put that information to use to make money
for myself online.

Some of them had great information in them and I could make
money from the information and I would start that project. The
problem was that I would never finish a project.

I was always searching for something better. I was always
looking for the next big thing. I was looking for something
that didn't exist.

I was looking for something that didn't require hardly any
work and was going to make me a millionaire overnight.

There is no product that is going to do this for you!

I had the information in my hands to make a handsome living
online. I just wasn't using it. I wasn't staying focused
on a project long enough to see any returns.

I was lied to, like most people who get into the making money
online field. We are told by people who want to sell their
products to us, that we will make a million dollars overnight
and don't have to do much work.

Guess what, you won't make that kind of money overnight and it
does take some work. What you should do is pick out some
projects and finish them.

Once you start finishing your projects, whatever they may be,
creating a product, building a website, writing sale copy etc.
The money will start coming in.

I always say that the toughest dollar to make online is the
first one. There are so many people that don't make any money
online and give up and go back to their day job.

The first dollar was definitely the toughest for me to make.
I think it gets easier because once you have made some money
online, you have broken down that first very important barrier
down, it gets a lot easier.

You realize that you really can make money online and your
confidence soars! You can just keep on doing what you were
doing to make more money.

Work harder and expand your business. Repeat what you're
doing to make money and just keep expanding on that process and
keep working on ways to improve your business.

Focus and hard work is going to get you along ways in life.
Using focus and hard work to make money online is two major keys
to success and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

Internet Marketing with a Laid Out Strategy

A lot of internet marketers run some unprofitable websites
or businesses with no short or long term strategies. Some
people do not have any goals, while some seem to jump from
one 'business opportunity' to another.

Some internet marketers treat their internet marketing business
like a hobby, and yet expect to earn some good checks from it.

To succeed in internet marketing, you need to apply some
strategic internet marketing techniques.

Depending on your internet marketing interests; it is a good
idea to engage in a business that has a long term
potential, which means that you will need to have long term
goals with the business.

Strategic internet marketing is not randomly buying some
cheap recycled 300,000 email leads or guaranteed hits.
Strategic internet marketing is also not about pointlessly
placing banner ads all over the internet.

Strictly relying on free classified ads or surfing for traffic
will also not bring you any guaranteed success for your internet
marketing business. Yes, these marketing tactics mentioned
above may work in some instances for some business types;
but they can't be considered as strategic internet
marketing campaigns just by themselves.

So, what is strategic internet marketing?

Strategic internet marketing is basically about having a
promotion plan that employs effective and proven marketing
devices to get high converting results for your internet
marketing business.

You mast use a list of selected marketing plans that are
effective; and you must make sure that you perfect your
skills in these strategies in order to make them effective.

The first thing you will need to do is to establish your
advertising budget. You must establish how much can you
spend per week or per month.

Every promotion for your internet marketing business must
have a purpose and it is critical to track the results of
each and every advertisement. Tracking your ads means that
you can then identify the strategies that are bringing the
best results for your advertising dollar.

After you have identified the ads that are working, you can
allocate more money towards those. By tracking your ads, you
can also find out which ads are not working, or which ones
need adjusting.

The key to strategic internet marketing is to constantly
improve your marketing strategies, by making them more
effective.

If you do not track your marketing campaigns and ads -
you are simply 'operating in the dark' and
this will not bring you any success in internet marketing.
You are simply throwing your money away.

So, which marketing strategies actually work?

There are proven marketing strategies that can guarantee you
success in internet marketing if you apply them
consistently.

1) Writing and submitting articles

A very effective and cheap way of promoting your business.
Writing articles builds your credibility and also drive
plenty of targeted traffic to your site, all for free.

2) Pay per Click Advertising (PPC)

PPC is the fastest way to get traffic to your internet marketing
business' website. However, to make this strategy
successful and cost effective for your internet marketing
business, you must educate yourself about keyword selection
and bidding for your keywords.

3) Start Your Own Ezine

This is most likely the most powerful marketing technique on
the internet. Having your own list of subscribers to send a
newsletter to on a regular basis is a powerful way of expanding
your internet marketing business.

4) Viral Marketing

Another very popular and effective marketing strategy for your
internet marketing business. You can give 'stuff' away that
people can use and put links to your web site in it.

Information is a powerful tool in marketing. Give people
rights to share the 'stuff' with their friends and email lists.
In the long term, this will build a lot of traffic to your website.

5) Linking

One way or reciprocal linking is critical to your online success.
This tactic takes time to develop, but it is well worth your
effort. Search engines assess the importance of your web site
by the number of incoming links pointing to your site. You can
build one way links by articles writing and submitting and also
participating in relevant forums etc.

6) Search Engine Optimization

This is another long term marketing tactic for your internet
marketing business. Your pages must be fully optimized for the
search engines. The most inexpensive and targeted traffic you
can receive will come from high search engine rankings.

Stop taking your internet marketing business aimless and start
to apply a solid strategy that will guarantee you success and wealth.

Yet another reason could be, because your (affiliate) links are long and ugly. Especially when using them in text email they take a lot of space and sometimes break up into two or more lines.
